My voice shakes during class presentations. What actually helped you?
Final-year student here. I know my topic well and I've practised, but the moment I stand in front of the class my voice starts shaking and I speak really fast to get it over with. We have seminar presentations every few weeks and a project viva coming up, so I need to fix this.
Things I've read but not really tried properly:
- Slow breathing before starting.
- Memorising the first 30 seconds so the start is automatic.
- Looking at one friendly face instead of the whole room.
- Pausing on purpose between points.
Did any of these actually work for you? Does it get better on its own with more presentations, or do you need to practise specifically? And does it get easier once you're a minute in, or does the shaking stay?
