Where do you find someone to practise English conversation with?

Two friends laughing and talking at a cafe.

Everyone says "just talk in English with someone every day". The problem is finding the someone. My friends switch to Hindi within two minutes, and at home nobody speaks English.

Options I'm considering:

  • A practice buddy from college who is also preparing for placements, with a fixed 15 minutes a day, English only.
  • Sending English voice notes instead of texting.
  • Role-playing both sides out loud when I'm alone (feels a bit strange, but people say it helps).

Has anyone kept a practice partnership going for more than a couple of weeks? What made it stick: a fixed time, fixed topics, correcting each other or not? And what do you do on the days you have nobody to talk to?
